Tour Description

DAY 1 OLLANTAYTAMBO / MACHU PICCHU: At the scheduled time, you will board the train to Aguas Calientes from the Ollantaytambo train station to visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World. After a scenic train ride of approximately one hour and a half, you will arrive at the Aguas Calientes station, where our team will welcome you and escort you to your hotel. Later, you will receive a brief orientation about the Machu Picchu tour at your hotel in preparation for your visit the following day.

Machu Picchu is situated in the province of Urubamba within the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and forms part of the protected area under the National System of Protected Areas by the State. The altitude of Machu Picchu is 2,438 meters above sea level, featuring warm and humid days and cool nights.

This enchanting destination is home to forests of native trees like cedar, as well as over 400 species of orchids and other beautiful flowers such as begonias. The area is also a habitat for fascinating wildlife, including the Gallito de las Rocas, Peru’s national bird.

Machu Picchu town is a small, walkable village ideal for exploring on foot. If you are interested in local handicrafts or textiles, there is a charming market to visit. You may also choose to enjoy the hot springs (optional), which offer a perfect opportunity for relaxation.

Hotel accommodation in Aguas Calientes is not included.

DAY 2 MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO: This will be a memorable day as you experience Machu Picchu at sunrise. You will take the bus for a 30-minute ride up the winding road to Machu Picchu, enjoying breathtaking views of the Urubamba River and its canyon. Machu Picchu, meaning “Old Mountain,” will captivate you with its terraces, ceremonial sites, stairways, and urban sectors. The energy of this location is truly remarkable.

The archaeological complex is divided into two main areas. The first is the agricultural sector, where you will see extensive terraces and platforms. The second is the urban area, the center for the most significant religious and cultural activities. The Inca Empire rose from the Peruvian highlands in the early 13th century and ended with the death of Inca Atahualpa in 1533.

The Machu Picchu Citadel was constructed in 1450 A.D. during the reign of Inca Pachacutec. It served as a major urban and religious center for the Incan Empire, the largest pre-Columbian civilization. The inhabitants focused on agriculture, building terraces for crop cultivation.

One of the best ways to experience the ancient Inca lifestyle is by hiking the Inca Trail. The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most popular outdoor adventures for travelers visiting Cusco.

After a two and a half hour guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu independently or, if you wish, climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional).

You may also choose to take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (optional). The town offers excellent restaurants serving delicious Peruvian cuisine.

At the arranged time, you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo, followed by a tourist bus to Cusco, with a drop-off at your hotel in the historic center of Cusco.
