Tour Description
Early in the morning, our private transportation will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and take you to the Poroy train station, just 20 minutes from the city center. There, you will board your chosen train for a scenic journey of just over 3 hours to the Aguas Calientes train station. Upon arrival, a bus will take you up to the entrance of the breathtaking Machu Picchu Citadel.
Machu Picchu, which means "Old Mountain," is situated 130 km northwest of Cusco in the heart of Peru’s Central Andes, alongside the Vilcanota River. Built by the Inca ruler Pachacuti between 1400 and 1500 AD, Machu Picchu served as an exclusive retreat for Inca nobility. The site sits at 2,430 meters above sea level and is known for its subtropical climate, which creates unique microclimates throughout the year.
For two hours, you will have the chance to discover this extraordinary archaeological complex, famously known as the Lost City of the Incas, on a guided tour. Surrounded by lush forests and diverse orchid species, Machu Picchu is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Many insects, mammals, and birds inhabit the region, including Peru’s national bird, the vibrant Andean cock-of-the-rock.
Enjoy free time in Machu Picchu to take photos or, if you wish, hike up the Huayna Picchu mountain (optional) for a different perspective of the citadel. "Huayna Picchu" translates to "Young Mountain" and rises to 2,700 meters above sea level. The ascent is steep and narrow, providing a challenging but truly unforgettable experience with the most spectacular views.
As you explore the Inca city, you’ll walk along ancient stone pathways, visit sacred temples, admire impressive agricultural terraces, and experience the unique energy that fills this magical place. If you prefer, you can also take the bus back to Machu Picchu town for lunch (optional).
Recognized as a World Heritage Site, the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu features remarkable landscapes and once served as the main agricultural and urban hub of the Inca Empire. Connected by a network of roads known as the Inca Trail, this magnificent site was the residence of Inca Pachacuti and his royal family.
At the scheduled time, you will need to be at the Aguas Calientes train station to board the return train to Cusco. During your journey, enjoy the remarkable views of snow-capped mountains, vibrant landscapes, and pass through the iconic Sacred Valley of the Incas and the historic town of Ollantaytambo.
Upon your arrival at the Poroy train station, you will be transferred by private vehicle to your hotel in the heart of Cusco’s city center.
