Tour Description
DAY 1
We will depart very early in the morning from your hotel in Cusco and head to the charming Andean town of Paucartambo, located 68 miles from the city at an altitude of 2,906 meters above sea level.
The Manu National Reserve lies between the Cusco and Madre de Dios regions. Established as a protected area in 1963, Manu’s rainforest is divided into three main sections: the cultural zone, the reserved zone, and the restricted use zone. The latter is the most strictly protected and designated for scientific research and biological studies.
Our journey continues as we descend towards the Cloud Forest, pausing for a delightful lunch along the way. Here, you’ll notice a warmer climate and lush vegetation surrounding you.
After taking in the breathtaking scenery, we arrive at a lodge in Manu’s cultural zone at 1,700 meters above sea level. Here, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved rest and a delicious included dinner.
If you wish, you can explore the area by walking on the trails around the lodge, accompanied by a professional guide.
DAY 2
Early in the morning, we’ll search for the iconic Andean Cock of the Rock, recognized as the national bird of Peru. After this remarkable experience, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast before continuing on to the town of Pilcopata.
At this point, you’ll have a completely optional activity: enjoy an exciting rafting adventure on the Koñeq or Alto Madre de Dios rivers, experiencing an hour and a half of pure adrenaline with class I and II rapids.
We then proceed to the port of Atalaya at 700 meters above sea level, where we board a boat and travel downriver to our next lodge. Marvel at the diverse flora and fauna along the way, including numerous bird species such as herons and vultures.
We’ll have the chance to explore the beauty of the Peruvian jungle on a pleasant walk around the lodge. At night, join us for a walk in search of nocturnal wildlife, including insects and amphibians.
The rustic lodge features a network of trails totaling 15 kilometers, which you can explore with a professional guide. All meals are included on this day.
DAY 3
Your final day in Manu begins with a boat excursion to the Collpa, a riverbank clay lick where numerous bird species gather each morning to consume the mineral-rich clay as part of their diet.
The Manu Biosphere Reserve boasts extraordinary wildlife diversity, the highest in the world. You’ll have opportunities to spot animals in their natural environment, including threatened species like the giant otter and black caiman, among others. 1614876
